We are pleased to announce our contribution to Caretto Occhinegro's next exhibition, ‘ÆTERNA - The dream of Rome’, where we will investigate the influence of Rome and the Roman Empire into Flemish paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. In this occasion, we will unveil our major discovery: a Roman marble Monumental Figure of Bonus Eventus, part of the Wilton House Collection, United Kingdom, for over 200 years.
"Rome as a concept: the most important in the history of Western art.
Everything converges in Rome or is opposed to it. But which Rome? That of the Emperors? That of the Popes? That of his countryside? The one that radiates from the fulcrum of its myth to the edges of a continent?
To what extent does the artistic idea of Rome have any relevance to reality? When does it turn into something different?
The exhibition aims to investigate some of these aspects from a historical and critical point of view, through a series of real case studies, a limited selection of works chosen for their particular aesthetic and content in relationship with Rome.
The line of investigation will be the typical one of our gallery, through Flemish paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, which – for the first time in Italy – will be put into direct dialogue with Roman archaeological finds."
