Carved after the famous model by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles, this fine 19th Century sculpture depicts a a young satyr resting his right elbow on a tree trunk. The satyr, sometimes also called faun, is easily identifiable by his clearly pointed ears and the pardalide (panther pelt) worn across his torso. Overall in very good condition, this white marble sculpture presents a fascinating patina that highlights the quality of the carving.
